The tote of lights is a tangle again. The ladder is leaning on the gutter, and the peak over the garage looks a lot higher than it did last December.
That ladder is the part to think twice about. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission says there are “about 160 Christmas decorating-related injuries each day during the holiday season, with over 40% of the incidents involving falls” (CPSC holiday tips).
So this season, Revive Exteriors is hanging holiday lights around Evansville. It’s new for us. The rest of the year we clean and protect roofs, siding and concrete as part of our proactive exterior maintenance. Now we’ll handle the lights too: the install, the upkeep through the season and the takedown.
Install, maintenance and takedown
- A design walk with you first. Before anything goes up, we walk the property together. You point at what you want lit. We talk about how it will look from the street and flag anything that makes a run hard, like a loose gutter or a branch hanging over the roof.
- Installation. Our crew hangs every strand on clips and sets the timer. You don’t touch a ladder.
- Maintenance through the season. If a strand goes dark between install and takedown, call or text us and we come back to fix it and get it lit again.
- Takedown after the holidays. On the date we set when you booked, we unclip every strand and take every clip off the house.
Your quote lists exactly what your package includes, so there are no surprises in January.
Rooflines, trees and shrubs
Most homes start with the roofline. That means the gutter line along the front, plus the peaks and gables if you want the shape of the house to show at night.
Most roofline runs follow the gutter. If yours are packed with fall leaves, book a gutter cleaning before the lights go up. Once the clips are on, the gutter is harder to get at until takedown.
Trees and shrubs
We wrap tree trunks and the lower branches you can see from the street, so the trees tie in with the roofline. On the design walk we look at each tree with you and plan what reads best from the road.
Shrubs and hedges along the walk or the front of the house get net lights or mini lights at a height our crew can reach, so the whole yard looks finished at night.
Commercial and HOA entrance lighting
Same steps, bigger site. Think of the sign and trees at a subdivision entrance, or the shrubs out front of an office or apartment building. We walk it with the board member or manager, set the install window and takedown date, and handle outages during the season. If we already look after the property through our commercial and multifamily exterior work, ask about adding lighting.
How booking works
Book early. There are only so many install days before the holidays, and an early booking gives you more choice of when your lights go up.
When you book, we set two things with you: your install window and your takedown date. You’ll know both before a single strand goes up. We don’t list dates on this page because they depend on the weather and the schedule. We’ll give you the real ones when you book.
How we protect the house while we hang lights
You stay on the ground
No ladders for you. Our crew does all the climbing, clipping and reaching, at install and at takedown. Watch from the driveway if you like.
Clips, not nails or staples
Every strand goes up on clips. We don’t drive nails or staples into your shingles, gutters, fascia or trim. So there are no new holes left behind when the lights come down.
An outlet and timer check
Before the first strand goes up, we check the outdoor outlet you’ll plug into and the timer that runs the lights. The CPSC’s holiday tips say to “never overload electrical outlets,” so we plan the runs around the outlets you have. Tell us when you want the lights on and off, and we set the timer to match.
If an outlet doesn’t work, we’ll tell you. Wiring repairs are a job for an electrician, and we don’t do them.
You probably don’t need this if…
- You like hanging your own lights and your house is one story with an easy roofline. Plenty of people do it themselves.
- You only want a wreath on the door and a strand on the porch rail. That’s an afternoon, not a crew.
- Your gutters are pulling away or your roof has loose shingles. Get those looked at first. A free exterior evaluation tells you what shape they’re in, and for roof repairs we can refer you to a vetted local roofing contractor.

Common questions
Do you take the lights down after the holidays?
Yes. Takedown is part of the service. We set the takedown date when you book, so you’re not looking at a dark roofline in February wondering when someone will show up. We unclip every strand and take every clip off the house.
What if a strand goes out in the middle of the season?
Call or Text Revive Exteriors at (812) 664-6222. Fixes during the season are part of the service, so we come back and get it lit again. Strands go out for all kinds of reasons, from a loose plug to a curious squirrel. You shouldn’t have to climb up there to find out which one it was.
Will you put nails or staples in my roof?
No. We hang lights on clips, so nothing gets driven through your shingles, gutters or trim. The clips come off with the lights at takedown. If a gutter or a spot on the roof edge looks loose on the design walk, we’ll show you before we hang anything there.
Can you light trees and shrubs, not just the house?
Yes. We wrap tree trunks and the lower branches, and we light shrubs and hedges with net lights or mini lights at a reachable height. Trees and shrubs are part of the design walk, so we plan them together with the roofline and talk about what will look best from the street.
When should I book holiday lighting?
The earlier you book, the more choice you have on install windows. We set your install window and your takedown date when you book. Call or Text Revive Exteriors at (812) 664-6222, or use the contact page, and we start with the design walk at your house.
